16 Memorial Prayers For the Christian Funeral

Revelation 21:4 – Funeral blessing for a loved one

Revelation 21 4, Mark 14 9, John 14 1-3, Isaiah 57 1-2 images pictures quotes

‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’a] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Lord God, you will wipe away every tear from every face of mourning. It deepens me sad knowing I will miss the presence of life they brought to my own. A beautiful hello follows a sad goodbye for me from the Father.

This scripture verse is a wake-up call to remember what God has said that will soon take place.

His kingdom will have no hurt or pain and will be for the righteous only. I lean on your strength in difficult times such as now.

In the house of the Lord, there will be no such things. It is a place where my Father welcomes this family member. These are happy times to know that my loved one is meeting our Heavenly Father.

It is a time when they have been waiting for their whole life. I know they are standing beside him with arms wide open, rejoicing in His presence. Amen.

Mark 14:9 – prayer for a loved one’s funeral

Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”

O’ Lord, the sets of footprints that this person has left is staggering. This lovely soul has impacted every family member, friend, and associate. You were able to feel the company of Jesus when this person spoke. I rest in knowing they knew the Lord Jesus Christ before this sudden introduction.

May God continue to use this person even after they left here on earth so that the set of footprints they made continue to roll onto others’ lives through the holy spirit.

Many people leave this earth in such an untimely death that it knocks your breath away. After seeing my tired face with tears and sorrow, I know this is not a sorrowful moment. I can laugh knowing they are dancing up above, exalting in the good times that will come from thy kingdom.

I pray for this loved one of mine to be welcomed into your promised land. Amen.

John 3:16 – A prayer for a grieving friend

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Dear Father, your Word reassures me of the promise I cling to the most during this time. When your children believe in you, they will have eternal life. The resting place where eternal love surrounds them forever. I know that my friend is in a better place.

My dear friend had a collection of prayers they lived by until their last breath. May God bless them in their final moments here with us. This person did not belong to the world but was all yours, Heavenly Father.

A light of memory that I will remember of the laughing times we shared so frequently. I cherished a beautiful spirit just as they loved the Lord. It is not my human understanding to grasp such a significant loss but to trust in God’s Will. Amen.

John 14:1-3 – Prayer after the Death of a Loved One

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in Goda]; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

God’s land resides for the eternal life of all the little children he once promised to take home. Dear Lord, you have already prepared a place for the family member I have lost. A room has been arranged for the day you decided to bring him home.

You are a merciful Father, and during his last hour, you hovered over him from any demons attempting to place an attack. Your right hand was over this person’s passing, just as it is during my grievance.

I need the company of Jesus to heal my sudden loss of someone I love. I did not plan to see a funeral service for the last time. I’m clinging to the ever-present help that you have given me. Your love has poured out with the light of memory that has shined back over. Amen.

Isaiah 57:1-2 – Prayer for the Dead Family Member

The righteous perish,
    and no one takes it to heart;
the devout are taken away,
    and no one understands
that the righteous are taken away
    to be spared from evil.
Those who walk uprightly
    enter into peace;
they find rest as they lie in death.

Dear Lord, my family member has been taken too soon from me in this world where we reside. Yet I know it was your timing that you finally called them home to be with you. Your tender love leaves me with a piece of them in the light of our memory.

Your words of comfort for my healing reassure me that they are in a place where only the righteous are welcomed. This world did not deserve them, and that’s why you called them home. The paths of righteousness led them to your kingdom to finally rest.

O divine master, you have spared my righteous special friend, and I thank you. I ask that this better place has room for me to reunite with my friend. Our good times together have not ended, but we will have a new beginning in my Father’s house. Amen.

John 11:25-26 – Funeral Blessing for a Loved One

John 11 25-26, Romans 8 38-39, 1 Thessalonians 4 13 images pictures quotes

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

The Lord’s prayer is for his believers to know that death is not their end. When living for Christ Jesus, you have eternal life waiting for you as soon as you leave your earthly home. The promised land is a glorious place where the sun never stops shining.

Celebrate this person’s life by knowing where they currently reside. The good deeds and the way they lived for Christ granted them eternal rest. It’s a welcome party up above with our Heavenly Father.

We all have different journeys before entering into thy kingdom. This person lived to the fullest, making memories with each person in this room. Let their perpetual light shine onto your life and what their vision of that looked like throughout their life. Amen.

Romans 8:38-39 – Funeral Prayers for Closing a Funeral

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I chose this memorial prayer for its beauty in explaining that you nor I can ever be separated from the Lord Jesus Christ. It is so amazing that he set up a place with his eternal love to be wrapped around you for all your life.

My friend is already at this place and is experiencing the indescribable joyfulness that it brings.

Today we lost a fantastic friend, compassionate family member, and devoted spouse. I cannot be sad knowing there is a celebration of life taking place amongst the angels and our Heavenly Father. I would like to also participate in this celebration and create our down here during this memorial service.

What joy it brings that their stopping place was where we could only visit in our dreams. The peace of God is in that home where no evil, weeping, or wickedness can touch. It is a privacy policy where only Christ’s little children can be. Amen.

1 Thessalonians 4:13 – Prayers for Mourners

Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.

This funeral prayer is not one to dwell on our sorrow and pain. It is to rejoice over the house of the Lord, gaining someone we all love. I couldn’t possibly hope for anything better than for someone to spend their eternal life with the Lord Jesus Christ.

You have worked so hard to gain access when getting accepted into a place. That is a special place to feel free to rest from your trials and tribulations. Does that not place a cause for celebration amongst your closest loved ones?

It is not our human understanding to grasp the why’s behind a loss only to know that it was God’s will. He took them out of an evil world and set them beside him in a place untouchable from anything that is not of God. Celebrate your time with this particular person and hold onto the laughing times you now cherish. Amen.

Phillippians 1:21-23 – Prayer for the deceased

Phillippians 1 21-23, Luke 22 19, 2 Timothy 2 11, Matthew 26 13 images pictures quotes

For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far;

This scripture is the perfect poem for those afraid to die and cross over into their eternal life. It’s easy to say you accept Christ Jesus into your heart and a whole other ball game when preparing for your final days. This family member of mine knew that the stopping place was slowly approaching.

The power of darkness attempted to scare them from accepting God’s will for their end days. However, familiar lies always sound the same when the almighty God stands beside you. You are a good God who cares for the welfare of my soul and others.

You are a gracious God crossing each of the little children into your palace. When standing firm on the Lord God, the sun of happy memories will never end. You replenish my soul with the memories I need of my family members during my times of mourning. Amen.

Luke 22:19 – Funeral Prayer for a Family

And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

Dear Father, you left a piece of you in this world for your little children to follow and cling to so profoundly.

When you left earth, you told me to break bread in remembrance of you. It is a small symbol to remember you and center myself back into the peace of God.

The perfect prayer does not exist, but I know you will give me the right words to speak today over my family member. I am experiencing a significant loss with too many emotions to explain. During this time, I will not stray from you, but I will draw closer and do things in light of you.

A funeral service reminds me and many others that the latter day is drawing near for us.

The span of years places a decision over you to either walk by faith or walk by your judgment. The love of God is felt in this room for a person we no longer have. Allow us to thank our Heavenly Father for the time you shared. Amen.

2 Timothy 2:11 – Prayer to Honor their Memories

 Here is a trustworthy saying:

If we died with him,
    we will also live with him;

Lord God, to live is to die but to gain when wrapped in your holy spirit. I am renowned for the good deeds you have placed within me to change my way of speaking and thinking. My past self has been laid to rest with the blood of Jesus.

The body of Christ is now within me and has flipped my life around. I am living with you by my side, giving me a different view of life. God’s land has a reservation for one with the great company of some good friends.

Sunny days are still above during my mourning period. I now see the loss of someone dear to my heart as a tired face awaiting to reunite with their Father. I am suffering in pain, questioning why this person. Your Word provides comfort in an area I was once at a loss of words for processing. Amen.

Matthew 26:13 – Eternity is a Restful Place

Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”

This funeral prayer is for the remembrance and thanks we give to our Lord Jesus Christ for blessing us with the time we received with this person. The sun of happy memories pours over each one of us with events that we hold close to our hearts.

Sunny days may not seem within eyesight, but when reminiscing on this person’s thoughts, they seem a bit closer.

Whenever we speak about the love of God, we often find ourselves thinking of them. A mark has been placed on your heart by the Lord God and this family member.

Good deeds poured out of them and did something for my soul. It rubbed off on areas I did not even realize I lacked so much. I am transformed by Jesus Christ and how he used this person in my life. Amen.

Ephesians 1:16 – Memorial Prayer of Thanks

I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.

I still thank and praise you in my mourning period for bringing this person into my life. It was an untimely death when I leaned on my friend this most in such a season. As I am hurting, I am also rejoicing over our laughing times.

It is my human understanding to have confusion and questions for you as to why the Lord God took my dear friend to the promised land so suddenly. I was blessed to know this person and all the love they have.

I will not stop giving thanks for the different paths we have still managed to cross. It was all you, God. You knew I needed such a free spirit in my life. Good friends are hard to come by, and this one did leave me with standards to uphold myself to having and being for others. Amen.

Psalm 147:7 – Celebration of Life Prayer

Sing to the Lord with grateful praise;
make music to our God on the harp.

The welfare of my soul sings out the words that carry your promise. Untimely, death has taken place in my life, and I can only turn to you, Lord God. I feel my thoughts and emotions swirling from my control and can only think to sing the exact words that lift me higher to the one who matters most.

I will praise you in the storm and lift my hands. You remain who you are, the good Jesus that holds every tear I cry. My loneliness and sadness are heavy, and I leave it all to you to take away this pain. I sing out your words of comfort that center me back to a place of your eternal love.

In the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil because you are with me. My current grief does not stop me from praising you. My human understanding is not made to grasp such drastic events. I trust God’s will for everything around me, even when it does not seem ideal to me. Amen.

Colossians 3:17 – Memorial Prayer of Thanks

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Lord God, let my different paths still have access to the light of your love. Your tender love has me shouting from the rooftops of the gracious God that you are. I pray for every season of my life that I am still connected and speaking the proper prayers over myself.

In the hour of my death, I will thank Jesus Christ, who made my life the sun of happy memories. The peace of God desires me to live for him through every breathing moment. Until my last breath, I will live up to my calling with every good deed speaking God’s will unto others.

God’s children all have different journeys, and he still wants each of us to live through thanks to who he continues to be for you and me. May God have your perpetual light shine onto others so all of his little children can reunite into thy kingdom of his eternal love. Amen.

Psalm 135:13 – Heartfelt Religious Funeral Prayer

Your name, Lord, endures forever,
your renown, Lord, through all generations.

Dear Lord, your power remains the same just as you do. Your Word is firm on its stance with your children and the way to live as your righteous right hand. The name of the Lord Jesus Christ has continued throughout every generation.

It’s during memorial services that we remember the love of God. Where the world’s anger, hurt, and pain disappear and reveal the sunny days we could not see. The days of my life will be filled with gratitude for the span of years you have so graciously blessed me to have.

In the hour of my death, I want to recollect the collection of prayers that guided me through my different path. May your right hand be in my life to instill a purpose of remembrance over me and my calling. Almighty God, let my perpetual light shine before my time comes. Amen.

Conclusion

Funeral programs can draw out the holy spirit over one’s life. We all have different journeys, yet the paths of righteousness will all walk hand in hand with your promised land. I want the days of my life to lead me to this better place with eternal rest granted.
